Some helmets borrow racing looks. The Scorpion EXO-R1 Carbon earned them. This is the same R1 shape that Fabio Quartararo wore in MotoGP and Alvaro Bautista wore in World Superbike, and Scorpion sent it to the FIM testing labs where it passed the toughest homologation standard in motorcycle racing. What you get here is the road version of that helmet, with a full carbon fiber shell under a gloss clear coat that shows the 3K weave across the whole surface. In sunlight it looks like nothing else in the parking lot.

It weighs about 1383 grams in size M. That number matters more than it sounds, because most full face helmets sit between 1500 and 1700 grams, and the difference lands on your neck at the end of a long ride. This carbon version is even lighter than the newer EXO-R1 Evo 2 Carbon, so if your first priority is the lowest weight with real racing history behind it, this is the one to pick.

A carbon shell with a MotoGP passport

The shell is built from resin-infused TCT-U 3K carbon fiber. Carbon works differently from plastic or fiberglass: when something hits it, the woven fibers spread the force across a wide area instead of letting it dig into one spot, and they do this at a fraction of the weight. On the road version you also get ECE 22.05 certification, an emergency quick release so medics can pull the cheek pads out safely after a crash, and a small detail most brands skip: the double D-rings on the chin strap are titanium, the same closure required on race tracks, just lighter than the usual steel.

Scorpion builds this helmet on three shell sizes. XS through M share the smallest shell, L gets its own, and XL through 3XL use the largest. Your head gets a shell that actually matches it, so the helmet sits balanced and looks proportional instead of like a bubble.

A fit you can adjust yourself

Every helmet liner packs down over the first few months, and normally the only fix is buying thicker pads. Scorpion solved this with Airfit. There is a small red pump built into the chin bar: press it a few times and the cheek pads inflate until the helmet holds your head the way it did on day one. Press the release valve and they relax. It also means one helmet can be set snug for a track day and a touch looser for a long highway run.

The KwikWick III liner pulls sweat off your skin instead of soaking it up, and the whole interior comes out for washing. The cheek pads are contoured to let glasses slide in without pressure on your temples. The fit shape is intermediate oval, slightly longer front to back, which suits most riders. If your cheeks still feel tight after break-in, Scorpion sells thinner cheek pads separately, but between the three shell sizes and Airfit, most people never need them.

Ventilation that works in real heat

A ram air intake at the front forces air into channels cut through the EPS liner, and a four-port exhaust spoiler at the back pulls the hot, humid air out. The faster you go, the harder the system works, which is exactly what you want on a summer run between Al Khobar and Riyadh. The shell itself is shaped to cut drag and stay planted at speed, so you are not fighting lift or buffeting on the highway. A breath deflector and an aero skirt under the chin come installed to keep fog off the shield and wind noise out from below.

Two shields in the box, race ready

Open the box and there are two Pinlock-ready 2D shields waiting: the clear one comes installed with tear-off posts already fitted, and a dark smoke shield sits beside it for day rides. A Pinlock 70 anti-fog insert is included too, so early morning rides with the AC-cold visor never turn into a fog problem. Swapping shields takes seconds with the Ellip-Tec II system, no tools, and the center lock clamps the shield tight against the gasket so it seals properly at speed.

R1 Carbon or R1 Evo 2 Carbon: which one is for you?

BoostBox stocks both carbon versions of the R1, and they solve slightly different problems. Here is the honest comparison.

The short version: the Evo 2 carries the newest ECE 22.06 certification with rotational impact testing, and that is worth paying for if the latest safety standard is your deciding factor. This helmet answers with lower weight, genuine MotoGP homologation, and a better price. Both share the Airfit system, the same racing shape, and the double shield setup.

Does a Cardo or Sena fit in the Scorpion EXO-R1 Carbon?

Yes. The helmet has dedicated speaker pockets measuring 42 by 48 mm and 7.5 mm deep, which fits the speakers from Cardo units like the Packtalk Edge as well as Sena systems. There is room along the neck roll for a clamp or adhesive mount, so nothing presses on your ears once it is installed.

How much does the EXO-R1 Carbon weigh?

Around 1383 grams in size M. For comparison, the fiberglass version of the same helmet weighs about 1550 grams and typical polycarbonate race helmets run 1650 grams or more. You feel the difference in your neck after an hour on the road.

Is this a real MotoGP helmet?

The EXO-R1 passed FIM homologation, the testing standard required for MotoGP racing, and Scorpion riders including Fabio Quartararo and Alvaro Bautista raced in the R1 line. The helmet sold here is the road version of that design, certified to ECE.

What is the difference between this and the R1 Evo 2 Carbon?

This one is lighter at about 1383 grams versus 1437, it carries FIM homologation, and it costs less. The Evo 2 has the newer ECE 22.06 certification, which adds rotational impact testing. Both have the Airfit pump, two shields in the box, and the same racing shape, so the choice comes down to newest certification versus lowest weight and MotoGP heritage.

What head shape does it fit?

Intermediate oval, a little longer front to back than side to side, which is the most common head shape. The Airfit cheek pads let you tighten the fit after purchase, and Scorpion sells thinner cheek pads separately if you need extra room.

Is it good for summer riding in Saudi Arabia?

Yes, and this is where the design earns its keep. The ram air intake, the channels inside the EPS, and the four-port exhaust spoiler keep air moving through the helmet at speed, while the KwikWick III liner pulls sweat away from your skin instead of holding it. The included Pinlock 70 insert also stops the shield fogging when you step out of air conditioning into humid morning air.

Can I try it on before buying?

Of course. Visit the BoostBox showroom in Al Khobar or Riyadh and try the size on your own head, which is always better than guessing from a chart. We ship everywhere in Saudi Arabia within 1 to 4 working days, and you can split the payment with Tabby or Tamara.
