The EK 520 SRX2 rivet master link is the connecting link made for EK’s 520 SRX2 chain. It’s riveted in place permanently, which makes it the strongest and most secure type of master link. Available in natural (silver) and gold.

What does a master link do?

A new chain comes longer than your bike needs. The mechanic cuts it to the right length, wraps it around the front and rear sprockets, and then joins the two ends with a master link. That one link holds the whole chain together. If it fails, the chain comes off while you’re riding. That’s why the type of master link and how it’s installed are among the most important details of chain maintenance.

Why choose a rivet link?

A clip link is quick to fit, but it’s less secure over long-term use and at high speed. A rivet link is pressed the same way as the rest of the chain, so it becomes a permanent part of it and won’t work loose from vibration. If you want peace of mind on long rides or when riding hard, a rivet link is the better choice.

Key features

  • Permanent, secure fit: pressed and riveted with a chain tool, so it won’t loosen from vibration.
  • Matched to SRX2: built to the same dimensions and strength as the EK 520 SRX2 chain.
  • Made in Japan: by EK, a chain specialist since 1941.
  • Seal rings and grease included: keep the link’s internal lubrication sealed in.
  • Two finishes: natural for silver chains, gold for gold chains.

How to confirm your chain is SRX2

Look at the side plates of your chain. EK stamps the series name every 5 or 10 links.

You should see 520 SRX2.

If the marking is different, such as ZVX3 or MVXZ2, this link isn’t the right fit.

Can’t read the marking? Send us a clear photo and we’ll help you pick the right part.

Type Installation Strength Notes
Rivet Riveting tool Strongest Permanent fit
Clip Pliers Lower Easy to fit and remove
Screw Wrench and pliers Close to rivet No special tool needed

When do you need a new master link?

  • When fitting a new chain: a new chain comes with its own link, but many mechanics keep a spare in case something goes wrong during riveting.
  • When the chain is cut: if you’ve cut the chain for any reason, such as replacing sprockets or rear wheel work, you need a new link. A rivet link can’t be reused.
  • When the current link shows problems: such as visible rust, damaged seal rings, or a clicking sound from the link area.

Step-by-step installation

We recommend having a professional install it. If you have experience and a riveting tool, these are the general steps:

  1. Prepare: clean both ends of the chain and make sure it’s routed correctly around the sprockets.
  2. Grease and seals: apply the supplied grease to the link pins, then fit the seal rings in place.
  3. Insert the link: push the link through from the back of the chain, so it faces the bike.
  4. Fit the outer plate: press the side plate on with the tool until it sits level with the other links. Don’t over-press, since too much pressure damages the seals and makes the link stiff.
  5. Rivet: flare the pin heads with the riveting tool, following the tool’s instructions.
  6. Check: move the link by hand. It should flex smoothly like the rest of the chain, with no stiffness or play.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Using a link from another series: even if it’s 520 size, a link from a different series may not match the chain.
  • Forgetting the seal rings: without them, grease escapes from inside the link and the chain wears quickly.
  • Over-pressing the plate: makes the link stiff, which causes vibration and sprocket wear.
  • Under-riveting: pin heads that aren’t flared enough mean the link can come apart. This is the most dangerous mistake.
  • Fitting a new chain on worn sprockets: worn sprockets shorten the life of a new chain. It’s best to replace the chain and sprockets together.

Chain care in Gulf conditions

High heat, dust, and sand in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf are harder on a chain than mild climates:

  • Sand and dust: stick to the lube and act like sandpaper on the chain. Clean it regularly, especially after desert rides or dusty roads.
  • Heat: thins the lube so it flings off faster. Check lubrication often.
  • Chain tension: check it regularly against your bike’s manual. A chain that’s too loose or too tight wears out the link and sprockets.
  • Use the right products: the SRX2 is a QX-ring chain, so use cleaners and lubes made for sealed (ring) chains.

Does it fit any 520 chain?

No. It fits the EK 520 SRX2 chain only. EK master links aren't interchangeable between series.

Can I install it without a riveting tool?

No. Without the tool, the link won't be secured properly and the chain could come apart while riding.

Can I remove it and reuse it?

No. It's a permanent fit. Removing it means cutting the chain, and you'll need a new link afterward.

Does it come with seal rings and grease?

Yes, both are included in the pack.

My bike is 1000cc. Will this work?

The SRX2 chain is rated up to 750cc for street use, so a stronger chain series with its own master link is the better choice. Contact us and we'll recommend the right one.
