The AGV K3 E2206 in Matt Black is the helmet that brings Italian AGV quality within reach of every rider. It is the new generation of the famous K-3 SV, rebuilt from the ground up to pass the strict ECE 22.06 safety standard, and it carries one feature that matters enormously under strong sunlight: a built-in drop-down sun visor. Flip it down when the glare hits, flip it up when you enter a tunnel, no stopping, no swapping visors, no sunglasses pressing against your temples.
If you want an AGV on your head without paying flagship prices, this is the model designed exactly for you. It suits new riders buying their first serious helmet just as well as experienced riders who want a reliable daily commuter lid.
Key Features of the AGV K3 E2206
-
Built-in sun visor: An internal smoked visor drops down with one slider and retracts just as fast. It removes without tools for cleaning. In places where the sun is strong most days of the year, this single feature changes your daily riding comfort more than anything else on the spec sheet.
-
ECE 22.06 certified: The K3 passes the newest and toughest European road standard, including the rotational impact tests that older helmets were never checked against. It is built under the same AGV Extreme Safety protocol used for the brand's racing helmets.
-
HIR-TH high-resistance shell: The outer shell uses High Resistant Thermoplastic resin, produced in 3 shell sizes so smaller heads do not carry an oversized helmet. Inside sits a multi-density EPS liner made in 4 sizes for accurate impact absorption.
-
Collarbone protection profile: The lower edge of the helmet is shaped to reduce energy transferred to your collarbone in a crash, a detail borrowed from AGV's racing research that almost no helmet in this price range offers.
-
Wide 190 degree field of view: The anti-scratch clear visor gives the same class-leading horizontal vision found on AGV's premium helmets, so you spot cars beside you sooner in city traffic.
-
Pinlock MaxVision included: The anti-fog insert comes in the box, keeping your vision clear on humid coastal mornings and in sudden weather changes, at no extra cost.
-
Aerodynamics that carry their own weight: AGV designed the K3 profile to reach a dynamic weight of zero at around 130 km/h. In plain words: at cruising speed, airflow lifts the helmet just enough that your neck stops feeling its weight.
-
Adjustable ventilation: Five front vents and two rear extractors keep air moving across your head, with controls you can operate while wearing gloves.
What Does ECE 22.06 Certification Actually Mean?
Every store mentions ECE 22.06, but few explain what your money actually buys. Here is what this certification requires in plain language:
-
Impacts tested at three speeds: The old ECE 22.05 standard tested one impact speed (7.5 m/s). ECE 22.06 tests slow impacts at 6.0 m/s, standard impacts at 7.5 m/s, and fast impacts at 8.2 m/s, because real accidents do not happen at one convenient speed.
-
Rotational impact testing: The biggest change in the new standard. Most brain injuries come from the head rotating violently in an angled crash, not from a straight hit. ECE 22.06 measures these rotational forces on an angled anvil and the K3 passes.
-
18 impact points instead of just 5 or 6: The old standard tested a handful of fixed points. ECE 22.06 tests 18, including the chin guard and randomly selected spots, so manufacturers cannot reinforce only the areas they know will be tested.
-
The visor is part of the protection: A 6 mm steel ball is fired at it at 80 meters per second, and it must neither be penetrated nor shatter.
-
Tested with accessories fitted: The certification now reflects the helmet as you actually wear it, including the internal sun visor.
Why the Built-In Sun Visor Matters So Much
Riders in hot, sunny climates deal with intense glare for most of the year, and the usual solutions all have problems. Sunglasses press against your head inside a helmet and fly off if you open the visor at speed. A dark replacement visor is perfect at noon and dangerous at night. The K3 solves this the right way: a smoked internal visor that moves independently of the clear main visor. Bright highway at 4 pm? Drop it down. Underground parking or a night ride? Slide it up. Your clear, Pinlock-equipped main visor stays in place the whole time, so you are never caught with dark lenses after sunset.
What Is Collarbone Protection, and Why Does No One Talk About It?
In many motorcycle falls, the lower edge of the helmet strikes the rider's collarbone, one of the most commonly broken bones in motorcycle accidents. AGV shaped the K3's lower profile specifically to deflect and soften that contact instead of concentrating it. It is a quiet detail carried over from AGV's professional racing research, and you will struggle to find it on any other helmet at this price. You may never need it. But if you do, it is the kind of detail you will be glad someone thought about.
Who Is This Helmet For, and Who Should Skip It?
Ideal for: daily commuters who ride in strong sunlight, new riders buying their first quality full face helmet, touring riders who want sun visor convenience on long trips, anyone stepping up from a no-name helmet to a certified European brand, and budget-conscious riders who still refuse to compromise on ECE 22.06 safety.
Consider something else if: minimum weight is your top priority (the carbon-aramid AGV K6 S saves you around 200 grams), you ride track days regularly (a race-focused helmet suits you better), or you ride off-road (you need a dual-sport helmet with a peak instead).
How to Care for Your K3
Hand-wash the removable interior padding with mild soap regularly in summer months, since sweat is what wears fabric out fastest. Clean both the main visor and the internal sun visor with water and a microfiber cloth only, household glass cleaners strip the anti-scratch coating. The sun visor removes without tools, which makes cleaning it a thirty-second job. Store the helmet away from direct sun, never hang it on your mirror, and replace it after any real impact regardless of how it looks, because the EPS liner absorbs energy by crushing and does not recover.

Does the AGV K3 E2206 have a built-in sun visor?
Yes. It has an integrated smoked sun visor that drops down and retracts with a slider, and it can be removed without tools for cleaning. This is one of the main advantages of the K3 over the K1 S and even the more expensive K6 S.
Is the Pinlock anti-fog insert included or sold separately?
The Pinlock MaxVision insert is included in the box at no extra charge, ready to fit on the main visor.
Is this helmet suitable for hot weather?
Yes. The adjustable front intakes and rear extractor keep air flowing, and the internal sun visor cuts glare without needing sunglasses. For the hottest months, riding in lighter-colored gear and keeping the vents fully open makes a noticeable difference.
Can I install a Bluetooth intercom like Cardo or Sena?
Yes. The K3 has room around the cheek pads and neck roll for most popular communication systems, and its flat side surfaces make mounting clamp or adhesive units straightforward.
Is the K3 suitable for riders who wear glasses?
Yes. The interior padding accommodates glasses comfortably, and the internal sun visor means you will not need to fit sunglasses inside the helmet at all.
Is the AGV K3 heavy?
Its official weight is 1,590 grams for the first shell size, and independent tests measured around 1,600 grams in size M, which is typical for a thermoplastic helmet with an internal sun visor. AGV's aerodynamic design reaches what the brand calls zero dynamic weight at around 130 km/h, meaning airflow supports the helmet at cruising speed, so it feels lighter on the move than the number suggests.
Is the AGV K3 worth it compared to cheaper unbranded helmets?
Unbranded helmets rarely carry genuine ECE 22.06 certification, which means they were never tested for rotational impacts, visor penetration, or multi-speed crashes. The K3 gives you independently verified protection, a sun visor, an included Pinlock, and AGV build quality for a price that remains within reach. For your head, that difference is worth it.
