The Ultraflite in gloss white is ICON's full face helmet with a handcrafted composite fibreglass shell and MIPS.

Certified to DOT FMVSS 218, ECE 22.06 and PSC. Ships with a Pinlock ready Ultrashield, carries an internal sun visor, and accepts the HelmLink unit.

White and Being Seen on the Road

The most common motorcycle collision happens when a car driver simply does not see the bike, typically at a junction or during a lane change.

A white helmet reflects more light, which makes the rider easier to pick up in a mirror and in peripheral vision. It shows up most in three situations: during dust, at dusk when light goes flat and grey, and at night under street lighting.

This is not protection in the mechanical sense that the shell and MIPS provide. It reduces the chance of not being noticed in the first place, which is a different kind of safety, one that works before a crash rather than during it.

To get the full benefit, carry reflective elements on your riding jacket as well. The helmet helps, but full body visibility matters more.

White Paint in Summer Sun

A white surface reflects a larger share of sunlight rather than absorbing it, so the helmet stays cooler when parked in direct sun than a dark shell like the Ultraflite Gloss Black.

You notice it at one specific moment: coming out of a shop or a mosque in the afternoon and putting on a helmet that has been sitting in the sun. With white, the first few minutes are less unpleasant.

While riding the difference narrows, because airflow through the helmet becomes the main factor. Even so, in this climate anything that reduces accumulated heat is worth having.

One habit applies whatever the colour: do not leave the helmet on the tank or the seat in open sun. Shade or luggage.

Keeping the White Finish Clean

Gloss white hides light dust well, but it shows three things clearly: insect marks, grease and skin oil from hands, and slow yellowing over time.

Insect marks: clean them the same day. Left to dry and bake in the sun for several days, they leave a faded shadow that is difficult to remove from a white surface.

Hand marks: the dirtiest spot is the chin bar edge where you grip the helmet. Wipe it with damp microfibre regularly.

Yellowing: white paint responds to UV over long periods. Storing the helmet in shade and inside the soft bag it ships with slows this considerably. Leaving it on an open shelf near a window is the fastest way to lose the white.

Wax: gloss paint takes automotive wax made for clear coat, which adds a layer that resists dirt sticking. Never apply it to the shield.

Checking That MIPS Is Working

MIPS in this helmet allows ten to fifteen millimetres of multi directional movement during angled impacts.

Many owners think there is a manufacturing fault when they notice slight movement in the liner. Test it yourself: put the helmet on, place your hands on both sides, and move it gently. You will feel the inner liner shift a little against the shell.

That movement is the system working. If the liner were completely rigid, the low friction layer would be absent or jammed.

The system reduces rotational force reaching the brain rather than removing risk, and any helmet that takes an impact must be replaced even without visible damage.

Construction in Brief

The outer shell comes in three sizes across the range, and internal padding can be swapped to fine tune fit within a shell size.

The included Ultrashield is optically undistorted and prepared for a Pinlock insert, sold separately.

Note: ECE 22.06 approval covers the helmet with an approved shield fitted. When buying a replacement, choose a genuine Ultrashield from our ICON shields range, or an equivalent approved to the same standard.

Before You Buy

White needs cleaning sooner after long rides, particularly during insect season and after rain.

The helmet is built on an intermediate oval head shape. If your head is a distinct long oval, try it on first.

The Pinlock lens and the HelmLink unit are both sold separately, the latter alongside our other Bluetooth headsets.

Is a white helmet more visible to drivers?

A white surface reflects more light, which improves how easily a rider is picked up in low light, during dust, and at dusk. It reduces the chance of being missed, and it does not replace reflective clothing and defensive riding.

Does a white helmet stay cooler in the sun?

A white surface reflects a larger share of sunlight, so the helmet stays cooler while parked in direct sun. While riding, airflow becomes the dominant factor.

Does white paint yellow over time?

White paint responds to UV over long periods. Storing the helmet in shade and inside the supplied soft bag slows this considerably.

I feel movement in the liner. Is that a defect?

No. That is the MIPS layer, designed to move ten to fifteen millimetres. It indicates the system is working.

What safety standards does it meet?

DOT FMVSS 218, ECE 22.06 and Japanese PSC.

Is a Pinlock lens included?

No. The shield is prepared for one, but the insert is sold separately.
