Buy cheap and you regret it at the first crash test rating. Buy flagship and your wallet regrets it immediately. The Shark D-Skwal 3 in gloss black sits exactly where most riders should be looking: certified to the current ECE 22.06 standard, fitted with an internal sun visor, shipped with a Pinlock anti-fog lens in the box, and closed with a buckle that works while you're wearing gloves. Nothing about it is showing off. Everything about it is thought through.

Where Your Money Actually Went
Into the certification, first. ECE 22.06 replaced the old 22.05 standard with harder impact tests, including rotational impacts and more test points across the shell. Plenty of full face helmets at this price still sell on the old sticker. Shark put this one through the new test and passed. That invisible line item is worth more than any graphic on the shell.
Into a sun visor you'll use more than any other feature. One slider, and a tinted shield with anti-fog treatment drops in front of your eyes. Sunset commute, underpass, back into the glare. Your sunglasses stay in your jacket all week.
Into details most brands skip at this price. The Pinlock 70 lens is in the box, and the visor pivots carry small tension levers so you can tighten the anti-fog lens seal yourself when it loosens over the years. The clear visor is optical Class 1, the grade without distortion, and a dark smoke D-Skwal 3 visor swaps in on the same quick-release system if you want a tinted outer shield too. The interior shape came out of a 3D scanning campaign Shark ran on real riders' heads, built up in five different comfort textiles, with room left for glasses.
Into daily convenience. The micrometric buckle clicks shut and pops open in one motion, gloves on. The visor has an air mesh first position that cracks it open just enough to move air across your face in slow traffic without the wind blast. Small things, felt every single ride.
Is the D-Skwal 3 Your Helmet?
It is if you ride most days and want current-generation safety without a premium receipt. It is if this is your first serious helmet and you want ECE 22.06 on the sticker rather than a marketing phrase. It is if you wear glasses and you're done fighting your frames into a liner that wasn't designed for them. And it is if you simply want a clean gloss black shell that looks right on any bike, from a naked 400 to a full tourer.
It isn't if your weekends are lap-time weekends, or if shaving grams matters to you. In that case Shark's Spartan fiber and carbon models, like the Spartan GT Carbon, are the honest next step up.
Get It on Your Head, Not on a Wishlist

What changed from the D-Skwal 2?
The third generation moved to the ECE 22.06 certification, reshaped the shell with CFD aerodynamic work and integrated spoilers, improved airflow, and introduced the BEST FIT interior developed from 3D head scans. It is a genuine update, not a sticker refresh.
Is a polycarbonate shell safe enough compared to fiberglass?
The certification answers that: this polycarbonate shell passed the same ECE 22.06 test protocol that fiber and carbon helmets face. Fiber shells save weight, which is what you pay more for, but the safety bar this helmet cleared is the current European maximum.
Why did Shark use a micrometric buckle instead of Double-D?
Because this helmet is built for daily life. The micrometric ratchet clicks closed and opens in one motion with gloves on. Double-D remains the track standard, and Shark fits it on their race-focused models where it belongs.
Does the gloss black finish scratch easily?
It's a standard automotive-style gloss coat. Treat it like a fuel tank: soft cloth, no dry wiping when dusty, and it stays deep black. Micro-swirls over years of use are normal on any gloss shell, which is also why many riders love that this Blank version is easy to touch up visually with simple care.
Can I add a Bluetooth intercom later?
Yes, the interior is Sharktooth compatible and has room for common intercom speakers, with a flat shell side for standard mounts. Nothing needs to be decided on day one.
