The design

The Slashcut graphic is built from sharp angular sections that cut across and layer over each other, as though the surface of the helmet has been sliced diagonally.

The base works black against silver, with strong blue and red-orange bands running from the front of the shell and sweeping back. The finish is gloss, which gives the colours real depth in direct sunlight.

The AGV shield in the Italian tricolore sits on the temple and on the front of the chin bar, with a red accent running along the chin vent housing.

This is a graphic that gets noticed on the road. It suits riders who want visual presence rather than a plain solid colour.

Shell and protection

The shell is carbon and aramid fibre, a combination that delivers high strength at low weight.

Here is a detail that gets overlooked. The shell is built in four sizes. Cheaper helmets use one shell padded out with extra foam for the smaller sizes, which leaves them looking bulky on a smaller head and adds load to your neck. This one stays proportional to your head whatever size you take.

The impact liner is 5-density EPS in four sizes, with the different densities handling different impact energies.

The helmet is certified to ECE 22.06, the newest and most demanding European standard. AGV states it exceeds the requirements of that standard by 36% under its own Extreme Safety test protocol.

The retention system is a Double D ring, used in racing because it gives an exact fit every time and does not loosen with wear.

Then there are the details that only prove their value once: the lower edge is shaped to reduce collarbone contact in a fall, and the cheek pads use an emergency release so a first responder can remove the helmet without moving your neck.

Note the detail most listings skip. Weight rises with shell size, so a shop quoting one figure for every size is giving you incomplete information.

What that means in practice: with a heavy helmet, your neck and shoulders start complaining around the two hour mark, and your concentration drifts through the last stretch of the ride. A light helmet pushes that point much further out.

Visor and field of view

The visor is Optic Class 1, the highest rating available, meaning a view free of distortion to the same standard as prescription lenses.

Field of view is 190 degrees horizontal and 85 degrees vertical. The horizontal figure sits close to human peripheral vision, so you pick up the car coming from the side earlier.

The mechanism is metal rather than plastic and opens through multiple positions. A micro-opening system holds the visor cracked for airflow while it stays locked to the chin bar, and the quick release lets you swap to a tinted visor by hand with no tools.

A Pinlock 120XLT MaxVision lens is included to stop the visor fogging from the inside.

What MPLK means. It is AGV's abbreviation for Max Pinlock, indicating the visor is prepared to take a Max Pinlock lens. Worth knowing before you buy a spare clear visor: AGV replacement visors carrying the MPLK code are sold Max Pinlock ready but without the lens. The lens comes with the helmet.

Ventilation and hot weather

The helmet has 5 front vents and one wide rear extractor. All are adjustable and sized to work with gloves on, which is a practical point people underestimate until they try to open a small vent with thick winter gloves.

In independent testing, riders have used this helmet in temperatures between 35 and 38 degrees Celsius and reported good comfort.

Set expectations correctly though. No full face helmet keeps you cool while you sit stationary at a light in summer. Ventilation works when air moves through it, which means when you are moving.

The liner uses AGV's DrySpeed system for fast sweat absorption, and it is removable and washable, which matters more in a hot climate than most spec sheets admit.

Communication system ready

The helmet is prepared for the AGV ARK communication system, with dedicated speaker pockets built into the liner.

Noise
